I wish to acknowledge gratefully the great blessing Christian...
I wish to acknowledge gratefully the great blessing Christian Science has been to me, and to tell something of the peace, the joy, and the healing which I have experienced. A dear friend interested me in it early in 1907. About that time I was feeling dissatisfied with life's experience and prospects, and was seeking the truth about life. In our family we believed we understood life in accordance with God's law as revealed in Scripture, but we had not found the fulfilment of the promise, "For they [the words of Truth] are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh." Four out of a family of six had suffered and passed on from a lung disease, and we believed this was in accordance with God's will.
My own health had never been satisfactory, and it did not improve through material remedies. I found considerable benefit by leaving office work in Edinburgh to engage in farming in Manitoba, but this change had not brought the solution to life's problem for which I was continually seeking. After years of partial neglect I again became interested in the study of the Bible, for though I could not reasonably reconcile myself to the way of salvation as taught from the various pulpits, I felt convinced that a right understanding of Jesus' teaching would solve all difficulties. I was very much impressed on reading the first chapter of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. There was something in it which I had never experienced before, which brought spiritual uplifting and an interpretation of Scripture quite beyond my expectation; also the conviction that its teaching was true remained with me. Later we heard a lecture on the subject which encouraged my friend and myself to make further inquiries at the home of the local Christian Science practitioner. The spiritual atmosphere in this home and the meeting with those whose consevrated lives were proofs of the practical nature of their religion, quite convinced us that in Christian Science we had found the "bread of life." In the light of the explanations given in answer to my inquiries, text after text of Scripture glowed with new light and deep import, and since then I have received continual help from the study of the Bible and the Christian Science text-book.
It is not too much to say that Christian Science has completely changed my life's prospects. My health has decidedly improved, and this truth has healed me of a functional disease which had troubled me since childhood. Many times I have had help from a Christian Science practitioner with excellent results, of which I here give the following proof: In March, 1909, I became subject to severe nosebleeding, which which continued, though not frequently, for several days. Being unable to free myself from this condition, and becoming alarmed at its continuance and the faintness and weakness which followed, I had help from a practitioner. Strength was at once restored, so that I continued at my work; in two or three days all trace of the trouble disappeared, and I have been free from it ever since. I was also remarkably healed of illness which came upon me after a long rough cycle journey. Through the uplift gained by reading pages 384 and 385 of Science and Health I found myself suddenly well.
