SHADOW

My heart was full of rapture yesterday;Ecstatic joy my being overflowed,For Love with me sojourned. There was bestowedOn me surcease from discords all; yea, theyDissolved to nothingness. Ah, but todayLove seems no more to brighten my abode!Sweet yesterday my world effulgent glowedIn Love's glad light. Whence came this shadow gray? This blight of yesterday's ecstatic moodIs but some fear that, cloudlike, would the lightObscure, and fain would sever me from good—A cloud of sense, reluctant in its flight.Infinite Love keeps e'er its constant course; From Love no dark, no shadow has its source.
