Dubuque (la.) Herald
It is very clearly recognized by Christian Scientists that to the human sense of things pain exists and suffering is very real. There is, however, a God-given means whereby pain, suffering, disease, discord of every name and nature, may be scientifically overcome. It is the means provided by our beloved Master, Jesus Christ, which is amplified and emphasized in the teachings of Christian Science as contained in its text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. Our critic erroneously places Christian Science under the category of "religious freaks." He cites the methods of various classes of religionists, and by inference attacks the validity of Christian healing as practised by Christian Scientists by introducing hypothetical cases. It is manifestly unfair to attack any one's religion by implication and innuendo. It has been my experience during a number of years that when these supposititious cases attributed to Christian Science were ferreted out, they proved to be not Christian Science cases at all or to have no existence whatever save in an overfertile imagination. Those who know what Christian Science is, know it to be an exact, satisfying, and reasonable religious teaching, embodying and making practical the highest ideals of Christianity.
