I wish to express my deep gratitude for all that Christian Science...
I wish to express my deep gratitude for all that Christian Science has done for me. I first heard of it about two years ago, when a very dear friend wrote to me about the healing, as she knew I was then suffering from a return of an internal complaint for which I had undergone an operation in one of the London hospitals. My friend also sent me a copy of Science and Health, begging me to study it, which I did occasionally but failed to understand its meaning.
In August, 1908, I was taking a night journey to Scotland and had a bad fall, severely injuring my right arm. The doctor who saw it said I had narrowly escaped breaking the arm in three places. For weeks I was unable to use it and it was most painful. I had to have my hair done for me, as the arm was practically useless. One Sunday morning in November I felt impelled to attend a service held by Christian Scientists in Sevenoaks, and I left that service feeling a different woman. I spoke to a practitioner there, and she treated my arm. At the first treatment the pain was relieved, and at the second I could swing my arm any way I liked, and use it as I did before the accident. This led me to study Christian Science more deeply. I recovered in a short time from bronchial trouble without the help of any doctor or medicine, and what to me is more than all, I have lost all the symptoms of the internal trouble, and am perfectly well and strong. Formerly I was continually saying that I must have stronger glasses, as I could scarcely see. Now, I can sit from early morning till late at night at the finest needlework.
I would not give up Christian Science for anything. I know that "God is Love," that He is "a very present help in trouble," and that we have only to "rest in the Lord" and "be still." I am deeply grateful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and to all who have shown me this beautiful Science, which has made me a happier and better woman. I long for all around me to know it.
