It is with a grateful heart that I send this testimony to what Christian Science has done for me. For many years I was the slave of several diseases,—heart and bronchial trouble, eye strain, and repeated attacks of stomach trouble,—until it seemed that life was not worth the living and the church of which I was a member seemed to be of little help in the various problems I had to meet.
My attention was first directed to Christian Science by a woman whose beautiful life attracted me, and for two years I thought much upon the few things which I heard of this teaching. At last I was told by the attending physician that I would probably have to go to a lower altitude to relieve the heart trouble, which was supposed to be hereditary. I did not care to give up my work as a teacher, and while visiting a friend one day I asked her if she thought Christian Science would help me. She said she was sure it would, and loaned me a copy of Science and Health. I began to read the book, and continued to do so, for I felt that I had found the truth. I wrote to a friend for absent treatment, and in a few days the heart difficulty was gone and my general health began to improve. While attending a summer school last year, the eye trouble was overcome in two treatments, and I laid aside glasses which I had worn constantly for fifteen years. In six months Christian Science did more for me than all the doctors had in my whole life.
It is such a relief to be free! The days used to be so full of pain and weariness; now I do my work easily and the days are never too long, nor is there ever too much work. The Bible, which had been a closed book, is now a joy and comfort. I am very grateful to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has shown us the way in Christian Science; also for the Christian Science periodicals and the weekly Lessons, which are such a constant source of help. I thank God, too, for the dear Christian Science friends who are such a constant help and encouragement to one who is just learning the way. It is my desire that I may help others as I have been helped, and that I may live so that every thought will be a blessing to those with whom I come in contact.—Maude Corey Godfrey, Trinidad, Col.
