UNFOLDING FAITH

O Tend'Rest Love, that guides the stumbling feet,
And keepest them in paths where Thou dost bide;
I cannot stray beyond Thy watchful care,
But always 'neath Thy shelt'ring wing may hide.

For Thou hast stilled the waters of my soul,
When they were lashed to fury by self-will.
And when, like weary child, I turned to Thee,
Thou didst them quiet with Thy Peace, be still.

So in my heart of hearts there rings a song,
Because I long to do Thy holy will;
As David sings adown the passing years,
Thou leadest me beside the waters still.

And I can thank Thee, Father-Mother God,
For every thing that leads to heights above,
Knowing that when we turn from mortal sense,
We find that God, and God alone, is Love.

So let me stand as Daniel stood of old,
With eyes steadfastly fixed upon the light,
And faith so strong in ever-present good,
That e'en the beasts of sense cannot affright.

Thus ever in my consciousness there dwells
The thought of arms divine upholding me.
For Thou—eternal God—my refuge art,
And I have found myself in finding Thee.
