THE TRUE CONSCIOUSNESS

Mrs. Eddy says in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 298): "The true consciousness is the true health." How, then, shall we attain this true consciousness? Christian Science teaches that God is All-in-all, that God is Mind, and that since there is but one God, there can be but one Mind. As Mind is consciousness, there can be in reality but one consciousness. If we had no mind or consciousness, could we know anything of the past? No. Then all the past there is to us is our present consciousness of it, is it not? Accordingly, if we can get our present consciousness right, we shall realize our freedom.

We learn in the Scriptures that God is all, and that there is none beside Him. This true consciousness then, will have to be gained from God, to whom eternity is perfect and harmonious; wholly good, because all that is real is His reflection, and what God knows is eternally true. The present, then, is good, perfect, and harmonious, the future also. To get the past right, is to get the present and future right also. This spiritual fact may be applied as a healing balm to every wound.

Our Leader says: "Insist vehemently on the great fact which covers the whole ground, that God, Spirit, is all, and that there is none beside Him" (Science and Health, p. 421). In thinking of God as the only Mind, do we always include in our consciousness the correlated statement, that there is no mortal mind? Jesus said, "If therefore thine eye be single [if thou hast the one consciousness], thy whole body shall be full of light." The individual consciousness of Truth is the reflection of the one all-embracing consciousness. At this moment there is harmony throughout the universe, for God's law is harmony. At this moment each idea is in its rightful place and is satisfied and contented. As each idea is the expression of God's being, each idea reflects Life, Truth, Love; therefore each idea reflects and expresses health, harmony, and activity here and now.
