I would like to express my gratitude, especially for the proofs of protecting and healing power of the teachings of Christian Science which I have experienced in cases of sudden injuries. About two years ago I inadvertently reached into a kettle of steaming hot preserves, but without looking at my hand I held fast to the truth that there is neither life nor intelligence in matter, that God is All-in-all, and that evil has no real power. Although the pain tried to make good its claim, I continued to work. The error was soon overcome, and I rejoiced over the disappearance of the material evidence.
Later on I had trouble with the left eye. It was at the time when the English lecture on Christian Science was delivered. With the joy of a child did I look forward to attending that lecture, and although I was not familiar with the English language, I trusted in the healing power of divine Truth which would be expressed there. I went, and was healed, and have experienced no trouble with my eye since. Last spring I awoke one night with a severe pain in the knee. I immediately declared the truth, trying to realize the scientific statement of being. The following morning I could, to sense, get up only with great pain. I had to go out that day, and broke down several times; but I would always get up again, leaning on God's power and strength, and thus get over the difficulty. I struggled along with this trouble, however, nearly all summer, but I knew that God is my physician and my helper, and I seemingly had no fear. A few weeks ago I spoke about it to a friend in Christian Science. He translated for me a passage from the text-book, Science and Health (p. 370), where it says, "The body improves under the same regimen which spiritualizes the thought; and if health is not made manifest under this regimen, this proves that fear is governing the body." I also remembered St. John's words, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment;" and Paul's words to Timothy: "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and of a sound mind," and since that time I have had no return of the ailment.
For this blessing, as well as for many others, and especially for the spiritual uplifting and strength which I have received through Christian Science, I am sincerely grateful to God, divine Love, that heals all our diseases, and to Mrs. Eddy, who has led us to where we can grasp the fact that the divine Mind is the sole reality, that God is good only, and that He is All-in-all.
