When a girl of sixteen years I was supposed to be...
When a girl of sixteen years I was supposed to be injured through overwork, and this brought on a complication of diseases, among them a serious heart difficulty, which lasted for years and resulted in bloating on my left side and great distress. For about thirty or forty years I was unable to turn my head without turning my whole body, and I was also supposed to have spinal disease.
Some years ago my daughter was wonderfully healed through Christian Science, after years of suffering, and I could not help but acknowledge that this healing must be of God, for surely it was like the works of our Master, whom I had been taught to love and reverence from early childhood. So, when I was attacked by illness two years ago, I did not want to call a doctor, but longed to get to my daughter's home, where I knew I could receive the help I wished. With great difficulty I was taken there in a carriage, and a Christian Science practitioner was sent for. By this time the pain was so very severe that I could not bear to be touched, but I did not tell the Scientist all my complaints, as I thought it would discourage her. I did, however, mention the swelling of my legs and feet, and the difficulty with my neck.
In just two weeks I was healed, not only of the rheumatic trouble, but of the swelling, and I was able to turn my head naturally and to lift it up, nor has there been any return of any of these complaints. Besides the physical disorders I was very sad over the loss of two of my children, who died years ago. I did not seem to get over their loss at all, but since I had this treatment it is as if a load of gloom had been lifted from me. Why should I not be very grateful for what Christian Science has done for me and mine, and be ready to speak a good word for it whenever I can?
