After studying Christian Science for nearly three years...

After studying Christian Science for nearly three years, I feel compelled to tell a little of my experience with our literature. At about the age of nineteen I was attacked with what the doctors called tubercular disease. I suffered four years from this plague and exhausted all material remedies that I thought could possibly help me, besides traveling over a good part of the United States. It was after I had made my third trip to Colorado from West Virginia, that I became really interested in Christian Science. I was then in Denver, Col., and no one who has not had some experience in Christian Science can know the change of thought and the freedom which it brought to me. With even a slight understanding of this truth I began to realize something of the meaning of the Scripture promises, and when I look back I can see clearly that all diseases are mental.

My healing has been for the most part a gradual overcoming of the complaints mentioned. I had four weeks' treatment over three years ago, during which time I was completely healed of bowel and heart trouble, and also of the tobacco habit, though later on I took up the filthy habit and smoked the weed for a year or more. The annoying cough gradually disappeared as I got more light from the study of the Lesson-Sermons and our other literature.

I have also had very beautiful demonstrations along the financial line since I began the study of this truth I know that poverty is a form of disease, and that it has its origin in fear the same as any disease. This I have demonstrated to my own satisfaction. I send this testimony with the prayer that if there are any as miserable as I was this may reach them. Christ Jesus said, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. ... but seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." Christian Scientists are realizing these things as facts in their daily lives. With deepest gratitude to the friend of humanity, Rev. Mary Baker Eddy, I give this testimony.
