THE LECTURES

The Hon. Clarence A. Buskirk of St. Louis, Mo., spoke to a large, representative, and most appreciative audience at the Kentucky Theater, on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 10. His subject was Christian Science. He was introduced by Miss Anna Webb, First Reader of the Christian Science Society of Paducah, who spoke in part as follows:—

Religious thought is rapidly casting off the garments of superstition, creeds, dogmas, and religious formula, and seeking to be clothed in the "seamless robe" of the Christ and to acquire the vitalizing force and dominant power of his life. As Elijah stood at the entrance of the cave, watching the destruction of error and listening for the voice of God, so all the nations of the world are waiting, at the entrance of the twentieth century. They have failed to find God in the turmoil of commercialism; they have failed to find God in the earthquake of materiality; they have failed to find God in the whirlwind of civil, social, and political strife—but they are hearing the "still small voice" of Truth. This "still small voice" is Christian Science, which comes as a direct message from God to the individual consciousness of all mankind; comes as the gentle messenger of peace and love, bringing light to the darkened thought, joy to the disconsolate one, freedom to the captive in sin, healing to the sufferer, and a note of true brotherhood to all the world, for it is Love enthroned. We are hearing again the Master's voice, saying, "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Christian Science is a practical, demonstrable truth, so that every man having eyes to see and ears to hear may prove it for himself.—News-Democrat.
