Christian Science accepts unreservedly the teachings of Jesus Christ, and regards him as the Wayshower and Saviour of the world. It looks upon God not as an incomprehensible, mysterious, and far-away Deity, whom man should worship but may never hope to understand, but as a being whose very essence is Truth and whose eternal mandate is, "Let there be light."

If it is the knowledge of the truth which makes men free, is it not natural to infer that all the woes of the race must proceed from an imperfect and insufficient knowledge of truth, of causation, of God? This is just what Christian Science teaches. It declares that we have not known enough to be good, well, or happy, and that what is required is a transformation of consciousness; that we must get rid of the ignorant, unsatisfactory, and unsatisfying thoughts we have entertained, and strive for that Mind which was in Christ. Further, it maintains that man, left to the guidance of the erring human intelligence, cannot accurately discriminate between the true and the false, does not know enough of the nature of good to be consciously governed by God. Nothing but Christian Science, the Science of Life, of good, of absolute Truth, can enable us to grasp for ourselves the great facts of existence and find God a very present help in trouble.
