About five years ago I began to read Science and Health, not because I thought it would heal me, but because my sister gave me her book and asked me to read it. I did not want to hurt her feelings, so I tried to lay aside my prejudice and began to read it. I asked God to lead me aright and show me in some way if Christian Science was the truth, for I was in great fear that I might be led astray. I wanted to know God, and was willing to suffer pain if it was His will, as I had always been taught to believe.

When I read in Science and Health that God does not send sickness and evil upon His children, it was a great revelation to me, and I asked for more light. One night, after having read in the Bible and Science and Health every day for over a week, I had a very severe attack of neuralgic trouble. I got up and walked the floor and cried, but I did not use any medicine, as I had lost all faith in it. I began to repeat the scientific statement of being (Science and Health, p. 468), and declared God to be my refuge and strength, "a very present help in trouble." I then went to bed, and in less than ten minutes I fell asleep and knew nothing more until morning. After such a proof of Truth's power I have never doubted that Christian Science is the same truth that Jesus taught. I know that Mrs. Eddy was taught of God, and I long to be worthy to be called one of her followers. I of course kept of with my reading even more earnestly, and many physical ailments vanished, among them female trouble and the fear of lung trouble. Through the study of the Lesson-Sermons, the Sentinel and Journal, I have been kept in almost perfect health, except a few times when it seemed wise to ask the help of a practitioner. Every member in my home, including my husband and five children, has been healed of some ailment, and Christian Science is a daily study with each one.

I am grateful to be a member of The Mother Church. We hold a service in our home every Sunday. There are several families in this community who are studying Christian Science. We meet quite often, and hope to be able to form a society soon. I am indeed grateful that Christian Science is teaching me to love the Bible more and more, and to know God aright. I long to express my gratitude to our Leader in works rather than words.
