In October, 1902, I heard for the first time a little about Christian Science. That day was certainly "a red letter day"—one never to be forgotten. It opened up to me great and grand vistas of truth; my thought was awakened to the fact that God is still revealing Himself to mankind, even as He did of old to the ancient prophets of Israel. Till then I had not realized how hungry I was for God—for the living God. I saw before me the possibility of my girlhood's dreams being fulfilled, namely, that I should be made "meet for the Master's use." The Christian Science text-book was loaned to me, and in about a fortnight I had my first demonstration, over defective eyesight. I had been wearing glasses for many years, and could not see to read without them. At this time my eyes were in such condition that I knew I must get stronger glasses or be enabled to do without any. I had committed to memory a portion of the scientific statement of being,—"There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (Science and Health, p. 468). I put my glasses away in a drawer and tried to realize the meaning of what I had learned. I knew that God could manifest Himself in restored sight, and He did. That night I was able to read clearly without glasses and have never since had occasion to wear them. From childhood I had suffered from stomach trouble, sometimes in a very acute form. This trouble also was overcome, and I gradually lost all fear of food through understanding that "the truths of immortal Mind sustain man, and they annihilate the fables of mortal mind" (Ibid., p. 103). For some time prior to my hearing of Christian Science I had been greatly troubled with a skin disease. Two physicians who tried their best had failed to cure me, but the truth was again successful.

Though I have reaped such great physical benefit simply from the study of Science and Health, this is but a small part of the gain. The great spiritual awakening raised my thoughts to ponder upon the unseen verities of being. I am deeply grateful to God for bringing me into the clearer light of His presence, and also to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for her selfless love, through which my nearer approach to God was made possible. My great desire is to be fitted to work for the fulfilment of her "life-purpose," as outlined by her on page 207 of "Miscellaneous Writings."—Mrs. Lucinda Slater, Bradford, England.
