Our critic writes, "The Christian Scientist says that it is not necessary to know the origin of disease in order to cure it." This is not a fact, for Christian Science insists on the absolute necessity of knowing and understanding the cause of disease, and that only by such knowledge can the disease be destroyed. True, the Christian Scientist differs with the materialist as to the origin of disease, which he believes to be mental, not material, and believes that those who look entirely to matter for the cause of disease are looking rather at the effect than the cause. Christian Science, on the contrary, in working on the assumption that disease is of mental origin, is striking at the very root of the trouble, and the wonderful success of this Science, in the healing of all manner of sickness, is proof that its teachings on this line are correct.
