I can scarcely find words to express my love and gratitude...
I can scarcely find words to express my love and gratitude for what God has done for me through Christian Science. I was brought up from childhood in an orthodox church, and was class and choir leader for many years. I was, however, never fully satisfied; my faith was not abiding, it seemed to come and go. It always seemed to me there was something deeper spiritually than I possessed or had been taught; there was enthusiasm enough, but not that peace which characterizes the truly Christian life.
About fourteen years ago a friend handed me a Christian Science Journal and I read and studied it very closely, especially the testimonies of healing by the power of Truth. I became very much interested, and resolved that I would test Christian Science and find out the truth, just as these people said they did. I was after the truth and wanted to know it, and it was not long before I had an opportunity to test it. I had been afflicted with a rheumatic trouble for more than thirty years. After returning from the war in 1865, this ailment seemed to settle on me. I would drop down where it happened to overtake me, and for ten days at a time it would keep me from my duties. So with the little I knew of Christian Science and the study of the Lesson-Sermons I found that Christian Science is the truth. I have never had a return of the ailment since, for which I am very thankful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for her spiritual understanding of the truth as it is in Christ Jesus. But this is not all. Other ailments have been met,—paralytic trouble, heart disease, and an eruption, in their worst forms,—all these and many others have been met and healed through the power of Truth as revealed in Christian Science. Should not I then be thankful? Words fail to express my gratitude to God, and to our dear Leader, for this truth.
