How grateful we are to God, and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy,...

How grateful we are to God, and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, as we pass each mile-stone on our journey out of the bondage of material beliefs into the dominion of spiritual truths. It is just five years since I passed the first mile-stone in my experience, and it required two years to reach this one. Living with Scientists, as I did, the atmosphere of Truth and Love in the home enabled me to discard glasses, which I had been compelled to wear for six years, being unable to read or sew without them for five minutes at a time without severe suffering. During these first two years I had been treated for minor complaints by my friends, but no special thought was given to my eyes, which illustrates what to me is one of the most beautiful things in Science, namely, that the pure thought of the Scientist, resting upon the sick, sad, and discouraged patient, enfolds him in divine Love, and thus makes him every whit whole. The next mile was covered in much less time, as I had begun to see that there was something for me to do if I desired to make any progress in my journey, for while others may give us a helping hand and start us on the right road, still there are many ruts and stony places over which no human hand can guide us, and we must ourselves labor to enter into the kingdom of God. In reaching this second mile-stone I left by the wayside my chief annoyances of former years, corns and bunions. Since that time many miles have been traveled, while here and there I have been dropping old beliefs, striving with all my might to bury them so deep down that others coming along the same road may not stumble and fall, but may be helped by my efforts to smooth the way.—Lola Walston, Quincy, Fla.
