THE LECTURES

The Loring Theater was well filled on Sunday afternoon [April 5] when Clarence C. Eaton delivered [for First Church] an instructive lecture on Christian Science. Mayor Evans presided at the meeting, and in introducing the speaker said in part,—

I see so many dear, familiar faces before me that I suppose I may be allowed to address you as "friends and neighbors." I see quite a few men with whom I am engaged in the almost daily activities of life, men who are welcome in my home and to whose homes I am welcome. In times gone by there have been very severe and long wars waged for what men thought was principle, and a great many men have sacrificed their lives for what they believed was right. Just as we differ a good deal in so many of our thoughts and the every-day activities of life, so we differ along religious lines, but when a neighbor of mine comes to me at the right time and place and says, "Mr. Evans, this is my religion; in it I find peace and comfort and I believe in its teachings," I answer him, "Will, all right, neighbor; you go ahead along those lines if you find them good; they may be just what you need and they probably fit your case exactly." In that spirit, the spirit of fairmindedness and without prejudice, I take pleasure in introducing the speaker of the afternoon.—Riverside Daily Press.
