Christian Science has enabled me to overcome a distressing condition. Even in early childhood I was very nervous and weak, and I grew rapidly worse from the time I was about twelve years old. When I was sixteen my parents sent me out on a farm, in the hope of strengthening me, and altogether I spent about eight months in the open air, with some apparent benefit but without any real change in my condition. By this time I had heard of Christian Science and was reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," occasionally, but I was afraid even to wish to be well and normal. I was continually despondent and morbid, and though feeling that the trouble lay entirely with me. I did not know how to conquer the fear that was the chief cause of my condition. As I read more and more of Science and Health, I realized that only through the truth, as taught in Christian Science, could I obtain freedom and peace of mind.

For nearly five years I read the text-book and attended the church services with some seriousness of purpose. From the first I was able to make an increasing number of small demonstrations, and within the last nine months I have gained the mastery over fear. After one or two treatments in Christian Science several ailments which had existed since childhood left me suddenly. I gained a much brighter outlook upon life, moreover, and was helped to do my work without the tension under which I had previously labored. I am deeply grateful for all this, and for the knowledge that I am gaining some understanding of the knowledge that "God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
