LETTERS TO OUR LEADER

Edinburgh, Scotland, Jan. 14, 1907.

Dear Leader:—At this Communion season we, the members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Edinburgh, join in expressing our ever-increasing love, gratitude, and loyalty to you, our Leader and friend. Having proved yourself a servant of the "one Lord" by the persecutions that you have lovingly withstood during the past few months, as well as by forty years of selfless service for mankind, we rejoice with you in the fulfilment of the promise that "if they have kept my saving, they will keep yours also." Already the Cause of Christian Science is a vital part of the world's history, and your "Harvest" song is being repeated in our hearts to-day.

We are sure you will be glad to know that Christian Science is getting a firm hold in this country. Scotsmen have always been lovers of metaphysics, and the clear, logical deductions of Christian Science satisfy their reason, while the faith in the Bible which has so deeply influenced their individual and national life is now being illumined and placed on a sure basis by the spiritual interpretation given in your books. Copies of our text-book have been accepted by eight of the principal libraries in this city, and by the prison, and the Sentinel is supplied every week to ten hotels and to the station waiting-rooms. It means a great deal to have the literature thus widely circulated in a city which used to be so full of prejudice as Edinburgh. We feel that the barriers are breaking down all around, and everywhere are proofs that the harvest time is come.
