May I be allowed to correct your contributor, "Man About Town," on one or two points in his notes upon Christian Science, where he has given a meaning not in accordance with what Christian Science is, or what it claims to do? The basis of the movement is entirely Scriptural, and it is not founded on any one passage of the Scriptures, as he alleges, but as defined in the Christian Science text-book, Science and Health (p. 497), by Mrs. Eddy, its Founder: "We take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life."

Christian Scientists differ from the orthodox understanding of the Scriptures, in that they accept the commands of the Master, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature," "Heal the sick," as binding upon all and for all time, and not merely in the Master's day and generation; and that the healing of sickness' is just as incumbent upon his followers as the preaching of the gospel. The Christly garment cannot be divided.

The cures wrought by Jesus and his apostles which the orthodox term miracles are to Christian Scientists the natural demonstrations of Divine power, available now, as in the days of the Master, when rightly understood, for divine Love, the Principle of all things, never changes, and is the same "yesterday, and to-day, and for ever." We have the assurance of Jesus: "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."
