Words fail to express my gratitude for Christian Science,...

Words fail to express my gratitude for Christian Science, and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. When I first heard of Christian Science I was suffering from what I supposed to be rheumatic trouble. My leg was in a bad condition, and I suffered terribly, so much so that I employed an eminent doctor, who informed me that I had injured the bone, and he thought I would have to go to the hospital for an operation. He treated me for many weeks, but the trouble became worse instead of better; then he said that I must have the operation performed, or I would lose not only my leg but my life. A friend then sent word to me to try Christian Science. I procured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and also sent for a practitioner, who gave me treatment. The healing was slow, and I did not gain as fast as my family thought I should. They expected me to walk right off, with a few treatments, after I had suffered terribly for months under medical treatment and had been unable to walk during that time. My daughter said that I must give up Science and go to the hospital at once, that she had the doctor and surgeon engaged, and that I would die if I did not. The thought then came to me, "Choose you this day whom ye will serve;" and I said, "What God cannot do, man need not attempt" (Science and Health, p. 231). I sent for the practitioner to come to me as soon as possible. After warning me that I would surely die if I persisted, my daughter went out. I was alone with God, and I prayed as I never had prayed before. The answer came to me, "Fear not; I am with you; peace, be still." I then threw away all my medicine, took up our text-book, and read and worked earnestly and faithfully until the practitioner came. He repeated some comforting words from our text-book, and then gave me treatment. After a few treatments I was able to walk with perfect ease, praising God, "from whom all blessings flow." I then told the practitioner that I had worn a truss for thirty years, having been treated by a specialist who had said that I must wear it constantly. When I asked the practitioner if I could leave it off, he replied, "If you wish; as there is nothing impossible with God." I then removed it, and walked across the floor very much like a little child taking its first steps, with fear and trembling. I put it on again the next morning, but the thought came to me, "O ye of little faith;" God has healed the bone, can He not heal this trouble also? I then threw the appliance away, and with a few treatments I walked with perfect confidence in God, happy and free as a bird escaped from a cage which had imprisoned it.

I praise God for my freedom; and let me say to all who are suffering in any wise, I pray you, listen to Christ's call,—"Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Come; accept the help of Truth, Life, Love through Christian Science, and gain eternal life.
