I feel it a duty as well as a pleasure to tell what God...

I feel it a duty as well as a pleasure to tell what God has done for me through Christian Science. I was healed of a complication of diseases, besides weak eyes, for which I had worn glasses constantly for ten years, and also of what the doctors called a serious heart trouble. They said my case was hopeless, that I never would be able to do another day's work, or even to walk across the floor. Another doctor was called, and he did not give me any encouragement, but said that I had a disease of the heart that no one could heal. Very great fear was thus aroused in myself and family, although I had been warned from the first that my time was short. I prayed to die, but God did not hear me when I prayed that way.

I was in this condition when Christian Science found me. I put myself in God's care, and was healed. Since coming into Christian Science I have learned how to pray aright, and that God does not send sickness upon us, nor does He put death before our faces and finally take us out of this world. I have proved that He is a very present help in time of trouble. I soon saw that Christian Science was the only way for me. A Scientist was staying with me at the time of my illness, and we had several talks on the subject. I loved to hear of it, and when I asked if she thought it would cure me, I always had an encouraging answer. One day a dear friend came to visit me, and I was suffering severely at the time. My friend was a Scientist, too, and after we had talked a while, I arose from my bed and sat up three hours, something I had not been able to do since the beginning of my illness. I then sent word to a practitioner for help, and she asked me to come to her, which I thought would be impossible, for I had not even been able to walk across the house; but my husband was anxious for my healing, and wanted me to go. I rode that day, but thank God, I was able to walk ever after that. I have been a student of Mrs. Eddy's book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," over three years, and in that time never have needed medicine, although I have two children and have had many little battles to fight; but my faith has been wholly in God, and every discore that has made its appearance has been quickly overcome.

I am a member of our little church here, and also of The Mother Church. Along my path from sense to Soul there have been some thorns and briers, but as our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, says, "I pressed on through faith in God, trusting Truth, the strong deliverer" (Science and Health, p. 226); and by so doing, I always came out of the difficulty bright and happy. I could write a volume, and then not tell all that Christian Science has done for me and my family, and my heart is overflowing with gratitude. Christian Science has not only healed me physically, but mentally and morally. I love it, because it teaches us how to love God and man. It also teaches that God loves us, which was a great comfort to me, as I had never thought God had much love for us in letting us suffer so, but I know now that God does not make us suffer. My greatest desire is to live a life that will prove to poor suffering humanity the allness of God.—Mrs. Lillian Goodrich, Webster City, Ia.
