A little over two years ago I was in an almost helpless condition, having been obliged, several months previous, to resign my position as a commercial traveler on account of a paralytic trouble. Among the numerous physicians whom I had consulted were two of the most noted specialists in America, but during many months spent under medical treatment my condition had not improved; on the contrary, I seemed gradually to grow more helpless, until finally I gave up all hope of recovery. It was at this stage, and while in Denver, Col., that I was induced by friends to try Christian Science as a last resort. After the first few treatments there was a marked improvement in my condition, and after two months I left Denver for the East, where I remained under absent treatment for two months longer. By this time my condition had so much improved that, although not yet entirely recovered, I was able to resume my work of traveling on the road.
I left New York in January, 1905, and traveled almost continually for ten consecutive months. During the last five months of this time I carried with me, as I am doing now, several trunks of heavy samples, which means several hours of very hard work in packing or unpacking almost daily. Even under these circumstances, as well as the inconveniences one is obliged to put up with while traveling, the changes of climate from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast, etc., my condition has continued to improve, until to-day I am stronger and in better health than I have been for many years.
It would be impossible for me to relate on paper the many other ways in which I have been benefited through Christian Science. I have lost all desire for smoking, a habit of nearly fifteen years and one which I used to think would be impossible for me to give up. Morally there is yet considerable room for improvement, but I am striving daily to apply my understanding of Truth, and to live in such a manner that I may soon be worthy to be called a Christian Scientist.
