ERROR HELPLESS

For I, saith the Lord, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her,—Zechariah, 2:5.

How often do we awaken and rejoice anew in the realization of man's coexistence with God, as revealed in Christian Science. The above-quoted passage of Scripture came to me at a time when help was greatly needed in working for another. In the quiet realization of its meaning discord was soon subdued, and since that time this verse has helped me in overcoming the fear of an approaching illness. Illuminated by the well known and much loved words of our Leader, "Clad in the panoply of Love, human hatred cannot reach you," and the side note, "The armor of divinity" (Science and Health, p. 571), these words of the prophet revealed the defense from what appeared to be an overwhelming approach of the enemy. Divine Love like a wall of fire round about! From this refuge, this defense, how harmless the supposed approach of evil! Error was seen to be impersonal, without name or power or hope of entrance,—the flames of Love driving back its threatened advance; and not one of God's children without this wall! Infinite Love was also seen as baptizing all consciousness, every desire, every aspiration! The fire of divine Love consuming, before it is thought or named or manifested, every assumption of error! "The glory in the midst of her" is undoubtedly the divine understanding of Divine Science in hours of great need.
