I can never express in words my gratitude for the benefits...
I can never express in words my gratitude for the benefits and blessings which Christian Science has brought to me. I had heard practically nothing of this glorious truth until about a year and a half ago. When a neighbor mentioned the fact that she was a Christian Scientist, it meant nothing to me, but when she said she had taken up its study as the best manner in which to rear her boy, it immediately appealed to me, as I was trying to find something that would give me a firm and sure foundation by which to guide our boys' footsteps upward. I had prayed daily for wisdom to attain this end, and consider my coming to Christian Science a direct answer to my prayer. When I first opened Science and Health,—our revered Leader's "Key to the Scriptures"—and read the chapter on "Prayer," I saw at once that it was a revelation of Truth and Love. I never doubted that it would ultimately be the faith of all, even as the apostle said, "Till we all come in the unity of the faith ... unto a perfect man." I have had some dark hours, when even Christian Science seemed unavailing against the claims that mortal mind sets up, but I realize fully that these arise from a lack of understanding of the divine Principle that rules and governs all mankind harmoniously. We are told, "With all thy getting get understanding,"—an understanding of God as Love, as divine Principle, that which can never err or change, whose law is immutable right. We have had many beautiful demonstrations in healing, but as all Christian Scientists know, the physical healing is secondary to the spiritual healing.
Incipient fever of a supposedly dangerous type was, with the help of a practitioner, overcome in one treatment, as was also an advanced case of cold. An intense earache was overcome in less than an hour. Our second son, when three years old, was playing with an empty grocery box, and sat down in it. He attempted to get out, but could not, as a nail in the box had deeply penetrated the flesh. He cried out in great pain, and after one or two efforts to extricate him, I succeeded. I took him in my arms and began to declare the truth. I had been interested in Christian Science only a short while, and knew very little of the methods of treatment, but I used what knowledge I had. My next-door neighbor, a Scientist, came over and began to work vigorously. In less than fifteen minutes the little fellow was quiet and went with my friend to play with her boys, she advising me to go to church as I had intended doing. When I returned she said there had been no complaint at all. That night he went quietly to sleep, and the healing was steady and sure,—the place where the nail had entered not even becoming inflamed.
My heart goes out in deepest love and gratitude to our dear Leader, and I daily pray that divine Love, and the light which is shed abroad in our land, may penetrate into the dark recesses of mortal thought and enrich all mankind.—Janet G. Montague, Mobile, Ala.
