The Mission of Our Sermons

At a recent Wednesday evening experience meeting I was deeply impressed with testimonies given, which told of healing received through the study of the Lesson-Sermon, and the value of these Lessons was again borne in upon my thought. Two young men said they had come home from business, feeling ill, weary, and discouraged, and each said, in substance, that he knew where to go for help, for the refreshment, the courage, the healing which were needed; namely, in the Lesson for the week. In my own experience I have often found the present help for present need in the Lesson-Sermon.

How carefully and lovingly the Bible Lesson Committee are thus breaking the "bread of life" for a hungering world, and how eagerly and gratefully we Christian Scientists are partaking of it, and finding that it sustains and satisfies.

What a difference there is between these and the old Sunday School lesson, which many of us knew, our interest often being more in some past historical event that in ever-present Truth. Our grand Lesson-Sermon ever leads thought to the Truth of being, the understanding of which will solve every problem, meet every need, bless and heal, as we seek and find the message it has for each of us.
