Christian Science does not teach that individuals have no responsibility, as our critic avers. In Christian Science personal responsibility is a very important matter. Man's responsibility to God is enhanced through his understanding of the nature and character of Deity. The line of demarcation between good and evil is clearly defined in Christian Science teachings, and mankind is not exempt from the punishment which sin inflicts simply because it has been discovered that sin is not eternal and therefore not real; in other words, that God is not the author of sickness and sin. Mistakes are not a component part of the basic law of mathematics, but the individual who makes the mistake in his figures suffers accordingly. God's laws are based upon perfect Principle, and inevitable punishment follows the violation of any one of these laws. It will, therefore, be seen that Christian Science does not excuse sin, and that the individual is not relieved of a single responsibility.
