My earnest desire for many years was for a better understanding...
My earnest desire for many years was for a better understanding of God than I was able to find in the orthodox church. I loved the church, and never listened to a sermon without getting much good from it. I had on one occasion, several years before knowing of Christian Science, gone through such a severe trial that none but an unseen power could give me help. I called so earnestly for my heavenly Father to manifest himself to me, that the answer to my prayer was an almost overwhelming sense of the presence of divine Love. This completely destroyed all sense of grief, as light dispels darkness, and the consciousness of God's presence was as real to me as that of my earthly friends around me. From that time I studied the Scriptures to know more of Him, and when, many years after, I had become almost discouraged, thinking that there was no more for me to learn this side of the grave, Christian Science was presented to me. I grasped its teaching as eagerly as one who is thirsty takes in a cooling draught of water. It was what I had been seeking, and a new world opened up to me, both physically and spiritually. Now I had found something to do, and a given rule whereby I could work out life's problem and prove divine Principle to be an ever-present help in all times of trouble.
How glad I am for this knowledge of Christ, Truth; my heart is full of gratitude every time I think of it. I want to express my gratitude to the dear ones in the Field for the many helpful things they are continually giving us, cheering us and helping to clear the way for others by relating their experiences in overcoming error. Above all, I want to express my love and gratitude to dear Mrs. Eddy, for her courage and loyalty in bringing this blessed revelation of Truth to hearts in great need of it. May she continue to reflect this precious knowledge of the Father, until all shall know Him from the greatest to the least, and may His choicest blessings rest upon her.
