Isaac Newton recognized a need for the law of gravitation...

Hartford (Conn.) Courant

Isaac Newton recognized a need for the law of gravitation, and forthwith proceeded to supply it. Christian Science is a discovery, a revelation, if you please, in the same sense that all great fundamental truths unfolded to the human understanding are revelations. Because it is a divine impartation to man, it came in God's time, when the human consciousness was somewhat prepared to receive it; but no human ingenuity or planning dictated the time or the terms of its appearing.

It is misleading to say that Christian Science denies matter, without explaining the exact meaning of such a radical statement. We deny matter exactly as St. Paul denied it, when he said that "the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal."
