I would like to say how very grateful I am to God for...

I would like to say how very grateful I am to God for my healing through Christian Science. In March, 1897, I was taken with great pain in my leg, and went into the London hospital and was operated upon. The surgeons said it was a cancerous growth of the fibula. I left in May a cripple, in surgical appliances, but ill and suffering worse pain. I returned to the hospital in October, the growth having come back worse than before, and had my leg amputated above the knee. Six weeks later it was taken off higher up, and I left at the end of December very weak and ill. Nothing could be done to relieve me; I was an object of pity to all the nurses and doctors who knew me, and they were all very kind, doing their best for me.

After the amputation I had to be operated upon several times, and in all underwent eleven what are called big operations. The dread of these was terrible to endure, and many times, when on the table I prayed that I might die. Up to October, 1902, the only sleep I got was through taking strong drugs. That month a lady came to see me and told me about Christian Science, and asked me if I would try it, saying she knew I could be healed. It was my last hope; I had been sent home in August by my surgeon, who said he could do nothing more for me, but told me to try to be happy.
