When I was a small child my parents became interested in Christian Science, and I also learned to love this beautiful religion. Since becoming an earnest student of this Science, I have experienced growing appreciation of the Bible and of the words and works of Christ Jesus.

After our marriage we moved frequently, and I seldom attended church services; but eventually I felt the desire to become a more consecrated Christian Scientist and to join a branch church. However, I had formed the habit of calling a physician for the family whenever there was a serious ailment, and I wondered if I would be able at such times to rely entirely on spiritual healing.

Then I became ill. I could not wear shoes, and I ate and slept but very little for many weeks. Since I appeared to be suffering from arthritis, relatives and friends urged me to visit a health resort where there were hot springs.
