First Church of Christ, Scientist, Birmingham, Alabama, will dedicate its edifice at services at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. on January 5....

Ground for the new edifice was broken in October, 1949, less than a month before the 50th anniversary of the founding of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Birmingham.

The cornerstone was laid on February 11, 1950, and the first services in the new structure were held on Sunday, November 19, 1950....

The completely air-conditioned building includes the church auditorium, nursery, church offices, committee rooms, [and Sunday School wing].

First Church of Christ, Scientist, Birmingham, was organized on November 20, 1899. It was the first branch of The Mother Church to be established in Alabama. Its first services were held in a hall at 117½ Twenty-first Street, North, where space also was available for a Christian Science Reading Room.
