REAPPRAISAL
He
searched his heart and found
No great sin there;
His life he could compare
With lives of upright men.
He did his share.
But lo, he searched again
And soon he found
That with self-centeredness
His life was bound.
With fences of reserve
He was hedged round.
He heard the Christ, Truth, say,
"Put self aside."
Humble, obedient,
He yielded pride:
He let love overflow
On every side.
He learned to give, not hoard;
He prayed to know
God's will for him each day;
He yearned to grow
In grace and follow on
Where Christ would show.
