LEARNING TO WORSHIP GOD

The most important assignment any individual can have is to get acquainted with God. Acquainting oneself with God means getting a correct understanding of Him. Through the years, of course, people have had differing concepts of God, some of which pictured Him as a distant Deity, a personal Spirit, a vengeful Jehovah. Such concepts did not indicate a true acquaintance with God.

The great beauty, the great blessing, of Christian Science is that a persistent and honest study of it will inevitably bring acquaintance with God, some understanding of Him. This understanding will increase as the study and practice of Christian Science increase.

During the years of my study of Christian Science, I have been convinced that God loves me, because the teaching that God is Father-Mother, divine Love, and that I am, in truth, His child seems logical and simple. I readily accepted that teaching and have found great comfort in it. I was not so sure, however, that I was worshiping Him, and yet I knew that this was my most important duty. Learning to worship God has been a challenge and a joyous experience. Down deep in consciousness has been an honest desire to learn to worship Him.
