I am deeply grateful that many...

I am deeply grateful that many years ago my mother, after reading Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, accepted, without reservation, the truth of the statements it contained. It was thus my happy privilege to have been reared in a Christian Science home. Activity in a Christian Science organization during my university experience was of great help and most inspiring.

An outstanding healing occurred one winter when I experienced a severe attack of influenza. My children were quite small, and the demands upon me seemed overwhelming. Early one morning I telephoned the Christian Science practitioner who was helping me and said, "I have lost my strength." Her immediate rejoinder was, "Why, you have never had any strength to lose."

I understood at once that she meant that the material body, as such, has no strength to use or lose. Certainly, then, as a mortal, I had no strength. I saw that God is all the strength there really is. I also saw that since my true selfhood is made in God's image and likeness, I reflected infinite strength. I walked away from the telephone completely free. The healing was instantancous.
