It is a great comfort to know...

It is a great comfort to know that the truths taught in Christian Science have power in every situation. I sustained an injury consisting of a broken bone in my upper arm and a dislocation at the shoulder. At the insistence of others an X ray was taken, but I refused medical help. Pain was continuous, and the arm was carried in a sling for two weeks. To add to my troubles, during this time a bill came due, and I felt sure that the amount I had been charged was too much.

One day, while sitting in the garden swing reading some Christian Science literature, I asked myself, "Are you believing all those good thoughts you are reading, or are you just using them to salve your injured feelings?" Then I recalled the Bible passage (Hebr. 12:12), "Lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees." I had read a Sentinel article entitled "Invoke the Law," and I now decided to invoke God's law in my behalf.

I live on a fruit ranch, and there was a weed-covered patch back of the garage. I took a hoe, and as well as I could I began to cut the weeds. Then I pushed a garden plow, put in five rows of corn, and watered the plot. As I worked I sang hymns from our Christian Science Hymnal. One of them that I sang wasNo. 382, which begins, "What is thy birthright, man?"
