Immediately childhood fears about the future left me. I enjoyed Sunday School so much that I found myself looking forward with joy to each session.

One Sunday our teacher explained that resentment is error. It is not a quality of God, nor is it created by God, she told us. And she pointed out that we should look only for good in others and destroy the temptation to look for things to criticize. I realized that I was resentful toward a cousin, who was often a visitor in our home, because she frequently remarked that I had inherited "the family goiter."
