In I John we read (4:8), "God is love." When I entered a Christian Science Sunday School for the first time, I read these words on the wall above the superintendent's desk. Immediately childhood fears about the future left me. I enjoyed Sunday School so much that I found myself looking forward with joy to each session.

One Sunday our teacher explained that resentment is error. It is not a quality of God, nor is it created by God, she told us. And she pointed out that we should look only for good in others and destroy the temptation to look for things to criticize. I realized that I was resentful toward a cousin, who was often a visitor in our home, because she frequently remarked that I had inherited "the family goiter."

To material sense she was right, but I saw that instead of being resentful, I should deny that a child of God can ever express anything but Godlike qualities. Since God did not create man with a goiter, man cannot have one. As my understanding of God and the real man grew, my concept of my cousin improved. I thought, "How kind and beautiful she really is." Some time after this improvement in my thinking, I noticed that I no longer had any evidence of a goiter, and it has never returned. This healing occurred some twenty years ago.
