Christian Science has met my deep yearning for an understanding of God. When this Science was presented to me I was in despair because of a stomach and intestinal condition which medical science had been unable to cure.

Constipation, for which I had daily taken medicine for years, was healed as I read the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. The moment I read that God is good, I knew I had found what I was seeking. My complete healing was slow, but it was assured' when I took a radical stand for God's power and love. I felt as Martin Luther must have felt when he declared, as quoted by Mrs. Eddy (ibid., p. 268): "Here I stand. I can do no otherwise; so help me God! Amen!"

I received much help and inspiration from loving practitioners, but I found that instead of using what I was learning about God and my true selfhood, I was constantly looking for a more experienced practitioner to do my thinking for me. The elimination of much self-will, false responsibility, self-pity, and self-righteousness became easier as I learned that God had never made these phases of mortal thought, and that they were no part of me. The complete healing followed, and it has been permanent.
