AFTER PENIEL

When we, like Jacob, struggle through the night
To reach a sense of God's protecting care,
Let us persist until the dawning light
Of Truth reveals the answer to our prayer.
The angel that God sends to still each fear
Will show us man in Love's own image made,
And man's true brotherhood will then appear
To bless us when our thought on Love is stayed.

When day advances, should the hours allot
New trials that will test the lessons learned,
Let us be steadfast that we falter not
But bravely use the truth we have discerned.
Remembering Peniel, we can trace
Divine Love's likeness in our brother's face.
