"THY BEAUTIFUL GARMENTS"

"Awake , awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city." This stirring cry of Isaiah (52:1), although specifically referring to the heavenly city, applies to us all. It is in effect a prayer for the revealment in thought, in consciousness, of the beauty and power of God. It is a call to each individual to recognize and then to exemplify the glory of God which is heaven within him.

Our "beautiful garments" of purity, grace, and love are in consciousness, not in matter; they are the garb of heaven and of heaven's children, not the garb of mortals. The same order of beauty and perfection in heaven is ours to pattern in everyday activities. To the extent that we let heaven clothe us, we are heavenly minded. The immortal raiment is always in consciousness, but the manner in which it is displayed rests with each individual.

Our real garments are completely spiritual. Jesus said (Matt. 6:25), "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on." And then he poses this query: "Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?"
