For the help and inspiration I...

For the help and inspiration I have received from the testimonies in our periodicals and at the Wednesday testimony meetings in Churches of Christ, Scientist, I wish to express my sincere gratitude.

Only after suffering for many years with eczema while under the care of medical specialists and while using their many prescribed remedies with no lasting benefit, did I begin the study of Christian Science. One day, when I was in great distress and was very much discouraged, one of my sisters said to me, "Why do you not try Christian Science?" I borrowed the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and later I purchased a copy of my own, as well as a Bible. I started reading the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly and attending church services, but for some time the words conveyed no meaning to me. However, little by little, because of the wonderful healings of which I heard in the Wednesday evening meetings and read in the Sentinel, I gained faith that if I persisted in my study, Christian Science would heal me too.

Up to this time I had never known a day free from the severe itching that accompanied this disease. Finally, after I had wavered between Christian Science and medicine for quite a while, the day came when I said to the prescribed ointment: "I am through with you. Though at times you have seemed to help me for a few hours, you have never really done me any good; you have not healed me." And I threw all the medicine away. That night the itching was so severe that I had no sleep. Like Jacob at Peniel I wrestled all night with a false sense of being, but by morning the testing time was over, and my choice between God and material remedies was made.
