OVERCOMING THE LIMITATIONS OF MATERIAL SPACE

THE stories of space ships and their occupants landing on our earth from other planets and the research and plans of men to launch missiles to reach other celestial bodies are today occupying the thoughts of mankind to an extraordinary degree. The question may well be asked, "What light does Christian Science contribute to the success of human activity in breaking such limitations as gravity, atmosphere, and time?"

This Science is in agreement with the statement of the Apostle Paul (Hebr. 11:3), "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." In other words, the testimony of Christian Science teaches us to reject the accepted theory of the universe as consisting of untold billions of material stars, moving within millions of galaxies. Christian Sci ence accepts the fact that the universe is constituted of countless spiritual ideas, all held in perfect relation to each other and to their one perfect cause, divine Mind.

This Science teaches that the only real space is not a vacant receptacle for a material universe, but the vastness of Mind or Spirit—divine consciousness. There are no vacuums in Mind, no dead spots, no barren spaces, no extremes of temperature, no movements in time. Divine Mind is filled with perfect ideas, all dwelling in the completely pure, beneficent, spiritual atmosphere of God, the atmosphere of heavenly harmony and inspiration.
