LOOK UP AT CHRISTMAS

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE, the Science of divine Love, teaches that since God is Spirit and man is His image and likeness, the real man lives in the spiritual universe. The understanding of this makes it possible to reverse material concepts and to replace them with their spiritual counterparts.

Christmas is an event which affords us the opportunity to reverse many material concepts. Such reversal reveals the spiritual significance of the season and the real meaning of Christmas as well. Although from the material point of view Christmas commemorates the birth of Jesus, the human child, to the Christian Scientist, the true significance of Christmas is in the Christ, which Jesus demonstrated. To understand that Christmas is the coming of the Christ, the divine idea, to human consciousness is to experience individual awakening. When the awakening begins, many practices customarily indulged in at this season are ommited, and the spiritual import of Christmas is given precedence.
