Activities for the Armed Services

Washington, D. C.

The United States Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines have installations in or near Washington, D. C., the nation's capital. Some of these are large; others are small. Members of all branches of our Armed Forces, including WACS, WAVES, WAFS, and women marines, are stationed in the District of Columbia. Our capital city is also the seat of the Defense Department of the United States. Because of these conditions, Washington is a center where Christian Science Activities for the Armed Services carries on a vital program.

The usual tour of duty of servicemen in this area is from two to four years. If they are married, they are generally accompanied by their families. One by-product of this situation is that the two Christian Science Ministers for the Armed Services and the two Christian Science Representatives in the Washington area receive many calls for help from dependents of Christian Scientists in military service.
