I was privileged to attend the Christian Science Sunday School from the age of five years until I was about twenty. After leaving home to attend college, however, I stopped attending church and for several years had little interest in any religion.

After moving to a western city with my family, I became ill with a stomach disorder, and a physician was called to relieve the pain. For some weeks I submitted to medical treatment and X rays. The physician diagnosed the condition as a severe case of gallstones and stated that I must undergo an operation or I would suffer from then on. When he called to tell me that he had reserved a hospital room for me, I was finally aroused and took my stand for Christian Science. All medical help was discontinued, and a practitioner was engaged.

One evening the pain was so intense that I thought at times I could no longer stand it, but the practitioner remained steadfast in her work. I had learned in Sunday School to rely wholly on God and to know that Life is perfect and eternal, and now I clung to this truth. Through the loving help of the practitioner and the encouragement of my family, who remained always faithful to the teachings of Mrs. Eddy, the pain ceased, and I slept naturally.
