AT HOME IN GOD

Today it is apparent that there is a great interest in homes, evidenced by the current building boom in several countries, by the sweeping advancements in furniture and appliance design, and by the fact that many are looking more and more for comfort, entertainment, and enjoyment within the home.

More than seventy-five years ago Mary Baker Eddy wrote (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 58), "Home is the dearest spot on earth, and it should be the centre, though not the boundary, of the affections." We should all awake to the realization of home as "the dearest spot on earth."

It is important, however, for the student of Christian Science to be concerned not merely with the material aspects of home. He must gain a clearer understanding of what home really is. Then he will see that the place where he lives, whether it be in one room or in a mansion, is evidence of his understanding of his true home. Paul wrote, speaking of God's closeness to us all (Acts 17:28), "In him we live, and move, and have our being." When one gains this spiritual sense of home, his present home becomes a place where love, joy, and beauty are expressed and felt.
