"THY THOUGHTS SHALL BE ESTABLISHED"

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

It is generally supposed that some people have a greater degree of intelligence than others and that the ability to learn is limited. But in the Bible numerous instances are related of increased ability gained through reliance on God. For example, Moses asked God to tell him what to say to the children of Israel that they might be led out of bondage; Samuel listened for God's direction and discerned that it was David, the son of Jesse, who should be anointed king.

At the age of only twelve years, Jesus was found "in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions" (Luke 2:46). When Mary and Joseph expressed amazement at what he was doing, Jesus explained that he was about his "Father's business."

Jesus' identification of God as his Father gave him capacity to hold an intelligent discussion with the wise men of the synagogue when he was but a young boy. Of course, Jesus continued to demonstrate intelligence throughout his remarkable experience. He showed that he was discerning of human character when he selected his disciples; he perceived the innermost thoughts of an individual when he healed; and finally he understood enough about God as eternal Life to prove that there is no death.
