In the two years since my separation...

In the two years since my separation from the United States Army, my love and gratitude for Christian Science have grown, and I should like to add my testimony to those of others to whom this Science has come while they were in the Armed Forces.

Although I was not reared in this religion, the foundation I received while in the Army gave me a firm rock on which to build. The first Christian Science service I attended was at an Army post while I was in basic training. Through my own study and with help derived from frequent contacts with the Christian Science Minister for the Armed Services, I was freed to a great degree from military duties which would have interfered with regular church attendance. Also through the application of Christian Science, I was assigned military duties which enabled me to utilize my artistic abilities to a device I had never thought possible in military life.

Once, when I was about to be placed on the guard duty roster and given an assignment which would have severely curtailed church attendance. I was led to read Hymn No. 148 in the Christian Science Hymnal. I found the opening lines especially helpful:
