THE METAPHYSICS OF SUPPLY

Christian Science reveals the origin of every effect to be Mind, God. Hence all supply must be the manifestation of divine Mind. Christian Science further declares that all cause and effect are spiritual. This is a point of absolute truth. But Christian Science does not leave matter unexplained. It declares and demonstrates that matter is a false and inverted sense of divine reality, a misconception or a misstatement of Mind. Matter is seen by Christian Scientists to be nothing more than illusion; thus because Mind alone is absolute and real, matter is temporal and unreal.

Mary Baker Eddy, who understood God as Spirit, defined the metaphysical reality of supply in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" in these words (p. 507): "Spirit duly feeds and clothes every object, as it appears in the line of spiritual creation, thus tenderly expressing the fatherhood and motherhood of God. Spirit names and blesses all. Without natures particularly defined, objects and subjects would be obscure, and creation would be full of nameless offspring,—wanderers from the parent Mind, strangers in a tangled wilderness."

Metaphysics reveals that infinite spiritual ideas are forever appearing from their source, the one Mind, God, who "names and blesses all." These ideas, which reflect God in countless spiritual forms, are "particularly defined," having an exact place and fulfilling a perfect purpose in the divine plan. Spiritual sense shows these infinite spiritual ideas to be spiritual identities, reflecting true substance and supply.
